Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do you take walk-ins?

No, we are by appointment only. If we are not booked, we’d rather be elsewhere (like at the beach) so to ensure service, please book ahead.

  • How often should I get a massage?

It depends on a number of factors such as your goals and what you can afford but in general, once a month is a good place to start.

  • Are all the therapists at KWC employees?

No, all of the therapists at KWC are independent contractors that rent space from the owner. This is why when you come to receive a massage and pay by card, you may not see Kona Wellness Center listed with the transaction but a different business name.

  • Do you do gift certificates?

Yes we do. However, since all of our therapists are independent contractors we all manage our own gift certificates. If you have a preference on who gives the massage, please contact that therapist directly.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

We require 24 hours notice for any changes or cancellations. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before your scheduled start time incur a fee of 50% of the cost of scheduled service. If you decide on the day to reduce the length of your massage, you are still required to pay for the service that you booked.

  • What happens if I am running late to my appointment?

If you are running late, please let us know. We will do our best to give you your full session however, depending on how late you are, it is not always possible as we may have clients booked right after. If we do have to shorten the length of massage, you are still required to pay for the massage that you booked.

  • What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash and card. When paying cash, please try to bring the exact amount as we may not have change for you.

  • Do I have to tip my massage therapist?

Tipping is always appreciated, but not expected.

  • Do you accept health insurance?

No, we do not accept Kaiser, HMSA or any other health insurance. The reason for this is that unfortunately, health insurance providers do not compensate massage therapists very well. For the extra paperwork and time waiting for your payment, it’s not worth it for us.

  • Do you accept worker's comp, auto insurance or personal injury claims?

Yes we do. However, all claims must be reviewed before they are officially accepted. Please note, if we accept your claim, you are required to sign a form stating that if any of your sessions are denied payment by your insurance, you become responsible for covering the payment of those sessions.

  • Is massage therapy safe for everyone?

Massage is safe for most people however, there are some contraindications. If you are dealing with a condition and you’re not sure whether massage is right for you, please contact us so we can discuss it further.

  • Are all the massage therapists at KWC licensed?

Yes! We are all insured and licensed by the state of Hawaii. We all display a copy of our license in our treatment rooms. Kona Wellness Center is also a licensed massage establishment in the state of Hawaii.

  • What do you recommend for aftercare after a massage?

Stay hydrated and take it easy for the rest of the day if you can.

  • Do I have to remove my underwear for a massage?

It’s up to you! We want you to feel as comfortable as possible so if you prefer to leave your underwear on, that’s totally fine. If you choose to remove your underwear, just know that our therapists are trained in proper draping techniques and you will be covered by the sheet at all times.

  • What's your inappropriate behavior policy?

We have a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for any inappropriate behavior and reserve the right to refuse service or end a session if someone is making us feel uncomfortable. No, we do NOT do “happy endings” and if you ask, you will be banned from our establishment.
